edit: I will update this with important additions as they are asked, or as I make them. Feel free to ask how to mod anything in Alarian's Mod in this thread.
What you need:
•Graphics editor that can handle transparency (I use GIMP)
•Audacity (to make .ogg files)
•Alarian's Mod (found here)**
**Make sure you check that topic for the latest changes/hotfixes to the Alarian Mod.
Note: If you already know the file systems of Frets On Fire, then proceed tothis post.
First, before you try anything, you have to know what the Alarian Mod changes about FoF. I will explain as if you have never seen the files inside of FoF before:
In the main Alarian folder, you should have fretsonfire.ini, FretsOnFire.exe, the Help-Readme.txt file, and a data folder. Here is what they do:
•fretsonfire.ini - tells FoF what your game settings are.
•FretsOnFire.exe - runs FoF (duh)
•Help-Readme.txt - tells you how to basically run the game and play with your settings.
•Data Folder - contains the bulk of the files needed to run FoF
The Data Folder:
Inside the data folder, you have 6 more folders. These are what they should be:
**the songs folder is just the directory for your FoF songs. You choose the directory in the game settings.
In the mods folder, there should be a text file that says:
Mods aren't used in Alarian mod.
But feel free to cram something in if you want.
And that is that. The modding for Alarian Mod is done elsewhere.
The necks folder holds all of the fretboard neck images that you can play with in the game.
The song directory holds your songs (duh).
The Sounds folder contains generic sounds always used no matter what theme you are using.
The themes folder has other folders in it that contain graphics to change the way the whole game looks. I will say more about this folder later.
The translations folder has files for other languages that you can switch to in the settings in the game.
Also in the data folder is the library.zip folder. That is where the base coding of the game is kept. If you are an experienced coder, you may mess with that. Seeing as I'm not one, I can tell you no more about this dark forbidden place :p
Themes and Modding Them:
The themes folder is where all the modding goes on in the Alarian Mod. The important ones are the GH3 and the Rb folders. Of course, they stand for Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band.
The GH3 theme makes the game play like guitar hero 3. The most prominent of its features is animated star notes. Out of the box (or .rar, whichever you prefer) the animated star notes are those from GH3. Other important files include hitglowanimation.png (for Alarian 2.63), lightning.png, and SPLight.png. Just look at the files and you should know where they are. If not, just play using the theme and look where certain things are. The GH3 theme also uses its own tails for sustain notes, found in the tails folder.
The Rock Band theme doesn't have the lightning or animated star notes, but it does have the overdrive neck that activates after you deploy star power/jurgen power/overdrive. It also has a different rock meter, and it has the overdrive meter from Rock Band.
Now to modding the damn thing (see post # 2)
